Dear Congregation and Friends of Asbury UMC,
Greetings in the Name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
I hope that this letter finds you well. Since my last email on Saturday, we have seen many changes in our nation and our community. As I previously mentioned, we who follow Christ are a people of hope. We know that God walks with us in the midst of our crises. My prayer is that you will lean into the Holy Spirit during this time of uncertainty.
With a change in guidance from the CDC, I would also like to let you know of some additional changes that will be occurring at Asbury United Methodist Church in response to COVID-19:
- Under recommendation from Bishop Carter, all in-person worship services have been canceled through the end of March.
- All other gatherings and meetings have been canceled or suspended, including:
- The Spring Fling, scheduled for March 28, has been canceled.
- Wednesday Night Suppers have been suspended through April 9.
- United Methodist Men, Bible Studies, Sunday School, and Committee Meetings have been suspended.
So, what are we to do now?
First and foremost, know that each and every one of you are in my prayers during this unprecedented time. As long as I am well, I am still here and available for you as we walk through this crisis together. The most direct way to reach me is via email (email@example.com).
I also believe that it is important for us to continue to worship. Therefore, beginning this Sunday, March 22, Asbury United Methodist Church will be posting our worship services online. Although we cannot be together physically, we can still worship together. I encourage you to watch, sing, and be in prayer, with those in your home, as you would do each and every Sunday.
I would also ask that you continue to submit your tithes and offerings to the church. You can accomplish this offering by setting up an automated bank draft though your bank or dropping a check in the mail (to 16 College Dr., Orange Park, FL 32065). Later this week, you will also be able to go to our church website (asburyop.com) and participate in online giving, so keep an eye out for that opportunity. (Now available!)
Also, Asbury UMC would like to help! If you are in one of the risk categories and are not going out in public, we are willing to help you get your groceries. Just contact the church and we will make arrangements to send someone by to get your list and payment and we will do the shopping for you.
I appreciate your understanding as we continue to navigate these uncharted waters. Asbury UMC will reevaluate our suspension of worship and other activities as we approach April. You can expect an email from me later this week with more information on how to access our online worship and giving.
I also recognize that there are individuals in our congregation who do not use email or a computer. Please feel free to share this information with them.
I encourage you to stay safe and follow the instructions of local health officials and the CDC. May God continue to bless you with the grace and love that is greater than our fears!
