Music Ministry

Music Ministry

The Music Ministry at Asbury includes an Adult Choir, Children’s Choir, and Handbell Choir.  All three ensembles practice on Wednesday evenings and perform during Sunday worship and for special events from August through May.  Vocal and instrumental soloists or small groups are always welcome.

Contact Sarah Shoremount at music@asburyop.com if you are interested in joining an ensemble or preparing special music for worship.

Excerpts from Wesley’s Directions for Singing:

III. Sing All. Let not a slight degree of weakness or weariness hinder you. If it is a cross to you, take it up and you will find a blessing.

IV. Sing lustily and with good courage. Beware of singing as if you were half dead, or half asleep; but lift up your voice with strength.

VII. Above all sing spiritually. Have an eye to God in every word you sing. Aim at pleasing him more than yourself, or any other creature.

Adult Chancel Choir

Rehearsals: Wednesdays 6:30-7:30pm
Performances: Most Sundays during 10am worship

Come raise your voice and help elevate the worship experience of the congregation!  The ability to read music is helpful, but not required, for singing in the choir.  Adults of all ability and experience levels are welcomed.  We perform a wide variety of choral music in 2-4 parts.

Children’s Choir

Rehearsals: Wednesdays 5:30-6pm
Performances: Occasional Sundays during 10am worship

All children are invited to sing with the choir!  The Children’s Choir is open to all children from Kindergarten through Grade 8.  Music reading ability is not required, and vocal technique will be integrated into rehearsals.

Handbell Choir

Rehearsals: Wednesdays 7:30-8:30pm
Performances: Occasional Sundays during 10am worship

The ability to read music is important for playing the handbells.  If you do not read music but are interested in playing, we can work with you!  Asbury has three octaves of Malmark handbells and we have a place for you in the handbell choir.
